    The End of Hand-Cranking: Why Pneumatic Self-Centering Vises Are the Future of CNC Workholding

    For decades, the CNC machining industry has relied on the same fundamental workholding process: an operator opens the machine door, blows off the chips, loads a part, and hand-cranks a CNC machine vise until it is tight. It is a process that has worked reliably, but in an era where machine shops are desperately trying to implement lights-out manufacturing and robotic machine tending, the traditional manual vise has become the biggest bottleneck on the shop floor.

    As shops look to automate, many quickly realize that buying a cobot or a spindle gripper is only half the battle.
