WAPAKONETA, OH U.S.A. (August 28, 2026) – Flex Machine Tools, a Wapakoneta, Ohio-based manufacturer of machine tool solutions worldwide for metal fabricators, operations and more, has acquired TARUS, a 57-year-old U.S. machine tool manufacturer based in Sterling Heights, Michigan. The acquisition became effective as of July 1, 2026.
TARUS is one of the few remaining U.S. manufacturers that still designs and produces exceptionally large CNC machine tools. The company serves customers in the automotive, aerospace, defense, heavy industry, energy, and mold and die industries, and is the world leader in clay model machine solutions for automobile design studios.
The acquisition expands Flex Machine Tools’ manufacturing capacity, while adding decades of TARUS’ engineering expertise, large CNC machine building capabilities and added TARUS resources to accelerate its growth. TARUS will continue operating under its own name from its Sterling Heights manufacturing facility in metropolitan Detroit.
According to Don Kemper, president of Flex Machine Tools and TARUS, the fit between the two companies made sense from the start: “TARUS has engineering talent and manufacturing capability. Demand for large, precision-machined components is growing faster than we can produce them today, and this acquisition helps us close that gap.
