I was planning to write about the difficulty for manufacturers to find space for their operations. I even had interviewed shop owners yesterday for insight. But that blog will have to wait because “Heil Hitler” hit me.
At a Paris Olympics soccer match between Israel and Paraguay, young people chanted, “Heil Hitler, Heil Hitler.”
In many ways, the games are a constant reminder of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Hitler’s introduction to the world, of himself, and the fascism which would soon overwhelm Europe and be welcomed into Paris.
A few years ago, who would have expected to hear “Heil Hitler” at the Olympics?
But this is 2024, with Israel at war in Gaza.
It’s a little hard for me to believe.
My daughter recently visited Israel for a week of study and a reunion with a dozen Rabbinical classmates. She painted a fascinating picture to me of the country she experienced.
When she arrived, she saw photos of the approximately 200 hostages covering the walls of Ben Gurion Airport. She frequently saw rallies honoring the prisoners and mourning the 1,400 people killed by Hamas on October 7 of last year.
The 60,000 people who fled from the North are spread all over the country, waiting for the day they can return to their homes.
My daughter went to one of the open-air markets on the Friday she was in Jerusalem looking for dishes to eat on the Sabbath with her friends. The vibrant moments she shared with me were surprising amid the war and killing. Yet she told me that she always felt safe while she was there.
This is Israel in 2024.
Most soldiers live normal lives and then go back to the front line to fight with their units. This is not an army of professional soldiers for the most part. They are volunteers, with fighters who are Ethiopian, Russian, and American fighting alongside third-generation Israelis. Many Israeli college students have returned from America to volunteer for the Army.
Today when I read about the preparation to disrupt the Democratic Convention in three weeks in Chicago primarily to protest support of Israel it sickened me.
I hope to be able to travel downtown, go to restaurants, and attend a Cubs game without reexperiencing the chaos of the 1968 Democratic Convention.
Let’s hope Lebron James and teammates crush the opposition at the Olympics.

Any Jewish person that votes Democratic will reap what they sew. PS – LeBron James is a useful Idiot.
That would be “sow”.
Correct. Does it matter? If it does then maybe you missed the point and can’t see the forest for the trees……
The Zionist state is kaput… they have infuriated every single bordering nation… their only hope is they drag the USA into it asap to do all the heavy lifting. Taking out Hezbollah and Hamas’ top guys in missile and drone strikes is not a way to win or deter a war, the axis of resistance will teach these Talmudic terrorists a mean lesson. Deus Vult
Hi Lloyd
RE: I hope to be able to travel downtown, go to restaurants, and attend a Cubs game without reexperiencing the chaos of the 1968 Democratic Convention.
I’ll take the bait and babble incoherently on a very delicate topic…
A very deep topic. We seem to be on thin ice. Competiton / Tribal warfare. Us against them whoever them is.
What’s interesting when I visit one on one with others and we take the masks off, we are all pretty similar with hopes and fears and regrets. We do react differently to similar events. Fight, Flight, Flee, Aquiese.
Does history repeat itself?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mark Twain: “[A] favorite theory of mine [is] that no occurrence is sole and solitary, but is merely a repetition of a thing which has happened before, and perhaps often.”[1]
Historic recurrence is the repetition of similar events in history.[a][b] The concept of historic recurrence has variously been applied to overall human history (e.g., to the rises and falls of empires), to repetitive patterns in the history of a given polity, and to any two specific events which bear a striking similarity.[4]
A radical theory says major crises remake America every 80 years
A theory of history says America is in the grips of a crisis called “The Fourth Turning” that will change it forever.
4. It’s all just history repeating itself
Thanks John, for leaving a comment I agree with. Rational with some perspective.
It’s tempting to want to take this swill in the previous comments off, but people should see it. This is America and right now we can still spew it and we should see the spew.
Honestly, I was looking forward to the other blog my dad and I had brainstormed yesterday, but he writes what it is on his mind so that will wait. I could stop it from being published but it would be hard to.
I do feel like history is repeating itself. History in the US specifically, I’m not sure. I’m a bit scared.
Does what you read/wrote mean in order for history to repeat itself have change for good it will take (more) chaos? War, blood? Here, where we are supposed to be better than the others?
I generally stay out talking about politics and reading about it and even worrying about it too much. I stick to reading sports, and get the news from podcasts (not political), my dad, my wife, and the front page of the WSJ.
What can I do?
Hi Noah, I thought about that question myself and I don’t have an answer. Tribal warfare, rise and fall of nations, history repeats itself.
Take out the autocractic leader and you will have government run by fools which at some point in time will be taken over by another more powerful tribe.
Or you have Stalin, Hitler, Trump who do well for a time. Take them out and you are back to a county run by fools. Peace doesn’t seem to work as all you need is one autocratic power hungry leader who doesn’t want to play by the rules and then the game starts all over again.
So our USA current political choices are vote for hitler / stalin or vote for micky mouse.
In my limited research True democracy doesn’t work as the majority of the voters are not educated enough to vote correctly or participate properly in a democracy.
TWO or is it THREE fingers pointing at me. I don’t have the answer. Tribal warfare or slavery…
The second commenter is the fool who makes himself kaput with his stupidity.
Things are turning for the better. Israel took out three arch villains is last couple days with a minimum of extra casualties.
Evan Gershkovich was released from a Russian dungeon. Things are turning for the positive.
Lloyd, I’m curious if you would approve of a separate Palestinian country, not under Israeli rule. I’m independent politically and am pro-Jewish and pro-Palestinian, but anti-Hamas, anti-Hezbolah, and at this moment anti-Israel. It seems like this tit for tat fighting will go on forever.
32 years ago, Rodney King asked…”Can’t we all get along?”
I guess the answer to his question is a resounding “NO”
Mark if it could be actually sccomplished I would be for it.
I am not a democrat, and I support Israel, they are the only country with the backbone to stand up for themselves. IMHO, Jewish voters are not represented well by democratic politicians. again, just my opinion and i agree that LeBron James is a useful idiot.
